Torum was a wealthy, vibrant and prosperous town in Rheiderland, but the people of Torum were known for being corrupt, complacent and conceited. Several old texts even speak of the excessive, voluptuous or blasphemous way of life of the Torumers. The price they paid for their sins was however terrible. One day the sky turned black as a powerful storm released a deluge that took the town and its inhabitants to the bottom of the Dollart bay. All that remains of Torum today is its eerie shadow. Local myth has it that one can still hear the church bells of Torum ringing under the water when sailing through the area on a calm foggy night…
